Private visits can be arranged for schools/scouts etc. A buffet can be arranged for adults groups on visits . To arrange a visit contact the secretary. Members will also visit schools and other groups to give talks on astronomy. Open nights are held once per month throughout the year.

WYAS was formed in 1973. A few years later, work began to build an observatory. This work was carried out entirely by members in their spare time. The 'Rosse Observatory' was completed in 1983 and opened by Patrick Moore on Sunday, September 25th. 1983.

Recently, an extension was built allowing access for people with disabilities. The extension contains a kitchen, lavatory and computer room allowing people with disabilities, who cannot access the dome, to operate the telescope using astronomical software and, by use of camera's, project the image of the night sky onto a computer screen.

Visiting Speakers WYAS Committee have approved the reduction of visitors fees for people wishing to listen to our visiting speakers. With immediate effect anyone producing their Carleton Community Centre membership card will be admitted for £3, which is WYAS members rate,  Other visitors will pay £4.
